The making of an eco-friendly, greatly prosperous company can be clearly tracked if you follow the progress of the Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water Company. Celebrating their assent to the top of their industry, this year Waiakea won the 414th spot in the Inc. 500 List ranked by Annually, Inc. Magazine. The company has grown at a phenomenal pace, reaching 1,059.3% growth from 2014 to 2016.
Ryan Emmons’ Waiakea Water has a mission statement, “Drink Healthy, Drink Sustainably, Drink Ethically–Drink Waiakea”. Why does the company make this statement? If we look at their business practices, it becomes evident. Waiakea is eco-friendly, using bottles that are scheduled to be completely biodegradable by the end of 2017. In addition to that they use reforestation techniques to conserve the environment.
As the first American bottled Water Company to be given a carbon neutral certification, Waiakea continues to strive to be a greenest and healthiest company in the world. In fact, Waiakea makes a concerted effort to help others achieve and maintain good health. They do this by partnering with agencies like Pump Aid, which provides newly built water pumps to residents of rural Africa. Through their efforts, 1.35 million Africans now have access to clean water. Now these same people are better educated, have less exposure to water borne diseases and have fewer instances of malnutrition. Building the pumps also created jobs for the unemployed.
Waiakea Water is a very socially conscious company. They give approximately 5% of their revenue to the public due to their donation of 650 liters of water for every one liter of water that’s purchased. Waiakea Water is not only growing, it is also making huge social improvements with both its products and its resources.
